JMHC Leadership Opportunities

Leadership development is one of the pillars of an Honors College education, and the best way to develop leadership skills is though application and reflection. We offer an array of meaningful leadership roles within the college, which allow our students to pursue various commitments and exercise numerous skill sets. Through all of the roles below, students have the chance to work with dedicated staff and faculty and to collaborate with exceptional peers. We urge every student to take advantage of these opportunities, both to empower themselves as leaders and to make a significant impact on their community.

Honors Ambassadors

Honors Ambassadors are student leaders who are dedicated to serving and representing the John Martinson Honors College. Ambassadors interact and engage with prospective students to gain critical leadership skills while also promoting the John Martinson Honors College and its opportunities. They provide insight about the college as part of recruitment, high-school visits, campus tours, special events, community service projects, speaking engagements and more.

Honors Leadership Council

The Honors Leadership Council’s goal is to ensure all JMHC students feel a strong sense of belonging and forge meaningful connections to each other throughout their honors experience. This peer-to-peer student council features student representatives for each academic college at Purdue. Members of the council ideate and bring to life unique events for honors students, such as field-specific networking to meet other students in one’s academic college, professional development support sessions, unstructured activities such as crafting nights, study tables, and even social gatherings for JMHC students across campus.

Global House Leaders

Global House Leaders work in pairs with a group of about 10-15 students. They foster meaningful interactions between domestic and international students through bi-weekly events for their groups (dinners, movie night, etc.). They also collaborate with other Global House families to host an all-Global House event every semester. They receive training in intercultural interactions and opportunities to develop their intercultural skills in a practical setting. The Global House Council consists of four to five upper division students who help to create and articulate the overall direction of Global House, regularly review Global House activities, vision and organization, generate ideas for all-Global House events and work closely with Global House Leaders to help them develop activities.

Intercultural Ambassadors

Intercultural Ambassadors (ICAs) assist with promoting study away opportunities offered by the John Martinson Honors College. They reach out to students about study away programs, answer their questions, help prepare materials for pre-departure meetings, and advance global education and programming in the JMHC.
